Sconces— Once you start noticing them, you’ll see they’re everywhere in high-end design. Seriously, any time you fall in love with a room, there’s probably a sconce hiding in plain sight. They instantly elevate a space, add visual interest without cluttering your walls, and are perfect for that layered lighting everyone’s after.

The catch? Hardwired sconces aren’t exactly renter-friendly. Retrofitting your walls with electrical boxes is expensive, invasive, and kind of a commitment. Plug-in sconces are a decent workaround, but personally, I just can’t get past those dangling cords.

Enter: the candle wall sconce. Chic, simple, commitment-free.

Candle sconces offer all most of the charm and elegance of traditional wall lighting—with zero wiring required.

I especially love how they provide an element of symmetry when flanking art or mirrors. Perfect for that bare spot that’s large enough to bother you every time you look at it, but not quite big enough for an art piece.

As for lighting them? I don’t. I love the look, but I’m not trying to recreate an 1800s house fire. The candles are there for the vibe; They may not provide mood lighting, but they do add sculptural interest and an “interior-designed” touch that makes a space feel considered.

If you’ve ever thought, ‘I’d like to live like a duchess in 1810 but with fire codes,’ then (unlit) candle sconces are for you! But really, for renters—or anyone who wants the high-end look without renovation—decorative candle wall sconces are the perfect mix of form and flexibility. And best of all? No electrician (or fire extinguisher) required.

Wall decor Roundup featuring various candle sconces in gold and silver tones. Including vintage French, English cottage, regency, mid century, and modern inspired styles.
